Tokunaga's 100-Year Journey
- 1923

In 1923, founder Esaburo Tokunaga established a construction contracting business as a sole proprietorship at 33 Yamate-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama City, focusing on the construction of Western-style shops and homes in the Yamate area.
- 1935

In the same location, Tokunaga Construction Co., Ltd. was founded in 1935, with Esaburo Tokunaga serving as the representative director. The company expanded its business, primarily focusing on the construction and sale of pre-built homes.
- 1945

In 1945, the office and factory were relocated to 220 Yamashita-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama City (now the site of the New Tokunaga Building), and the company began selling building materials such as lumber and roof tiles.
- 1946

Amid a shortage of building materials in the post-war period, the lumber business was expanded, contributing to regional recovery efforts.
- 1950

In 1950, construction contracting for foreigner-exclusive residences began in the Sankeien and Yamate areas, pioneering the construction of Western-style mansions for foreigners.

In 1953, the company started construction and rental business for housing primarily serving the U.S. military personnel in Japan.
- 1956

In 1956, Tokunaga Building was constructed at 82 Yamashita-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama City, and the company ventured into the office building rental business.
- 1957

In 1957, the company began construction and rental business for housing primarily serving the U.S. military personnel in the Minami-Rinkan area of Yamato City.
- 1961

Started the business of land and property surveying.
- 1962

Established a subsidiary, "Owners Trading Co., Ltd.," in Minami-Rinkan, Yamato City, and began the real estate business in the Yamato area.
- 1966

Relocated the head office to 82 Yamashita-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama City (currently Tokunaga Building), and established "Tokunaga Kensetsu Kogyo Co., Ltd." with a capital of 5 million yen. Keiji Tokunaga assumed the position of the first representative director.
Discontinued the construction contracting business and changed the main business activities to architectural design and supervision, as well as rental housing. Obtained a license for real estate transaction business (License No. 2336 issued by the Governor of Kanagawa Prefecture) and started the real estate department.
- 1968

Established a showroom within Tokunaga Building and started selling fine art and craft castings, as well as various building materials.
Started property management services for foreigner-exclusive residences, primarily in the Yamate area.
- 1977

Changed the company name to "Tokunaga Building Co., Ltd." (existing as a separate company to the present day) and shifted the main business to real estate leasing.
Established "Tokunaga Kensetsu Kogyo Co., Ltd." as a new company with a capital of 5 million yen, focusing on real estate and architectural design. Obtained a license for real estate transaction business (No. 8990 issued by the Governor of Kanagawa Prefecture). Keiji Tokunaga assumed the position of the first representative director.

In October of the 12th year of Taisho (1923), he established an individual construction contracting business at 33 Yamate-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama City, starting with the construction of Western-style shops and homes primarily in the Yamate area. In May of the 10th year of Showa (1935), he established the Tokunaga Construction Co., Ltd. as a limited partnership and became its representative director. The business expanded with a focus on the construction and sale of pre-built homes. In March of the 20th year of Showa (1945), the office and factory were relocated to 220 Yamashita-cho, Naka-ku, Yokohama City (currently the site of New Tokunaga Building), and the company started selling building materials such as lumber and roof tiles. Amid a shortage of building materials in the post-war period, he expanded the lumber business and contributed to regional recovery efforts.
